About me
Dr. Johanne Ray-Hepp is an arts educator with an emphasis in music education. She was born and raised in Detroit and continues to serve the suburban area as a music educator. She started her arts career right out of high school, teaching marching band and private lessons, and has continued as a band director, English teacher, and started the first orchestra program in Northville Public Schools. In addition to her public school teaching, Johanne serves as an adjudicator for MCBA, SMB, MFMC, and MSBOA in the fields of marching band, solo and ensemble, and band and orchestra festivals. She has always felt passionate for the larger community of fine arts, serving as a volunteer for Plymouth Community Arts Council, teaching Drama at Northville High School, working with a homeschool enhancement group, and presenting a session on Arts Integration at the Michigan Music Conference. Johanne’s education includes BM in Music Education, with a minor in Fine Arts, a Master of Music, both from Wayne State University in Detroit, an English Education certificate from Madonna University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University. Her research interests include well-being, resilience, social ecology, fine arts, and eudaimonia.
